Live Your Best Life

It’s about the journey, not the destination

written by Rolayo Akhigbe April 11, 2016

We have been told countless times how important hard work is to achieving success.  Our social media timelines have been graced with quotes like,

“The one who achieved greatness was he who while others slept, toiled all through the night” and

“Go hard or die trying…” so we apply this to our daily lives, waking up before dawn and sleeping just before the sun comes up again.

Now, it’s totally fine to be driven, it is actually a tool most people wish to harness but ‘going hard’ might just become the obsession that stops you from enjoying what you have worked for.

The key is to work hard and take some time out to enjoy it as well as refresh your thoughts.
The many reasons one should take time out to relax include:

  • To inspire a fresh perspective
  • To refresh the body
  • To keep one away from a mental and physical breakdown

How then can we relax? What can we do to reinvigorate our total being?

Below are 3 things one can do.

  1. Go on a vacation (or staycation depending on the time and money available to you): Take that leave you have been stalling for a while. As indispensable as you seem at your job, the entire business won’t crumble because you have taken time out for yourself. So delegate some duties and steal away to a nice resort or hotel (planning vacations as a group most times cuts cost so explore your options). However if you are short on cash, you can have a ‘staycay’ at home.  Simply put your devices off and just rest.

Learn the art of meditation: We spend so much time on the treadmill of life and exerting a lot of energy that the act of just staying still for a few minutes through meditation really helps refocus the mind, removing the unnecessary clutter of worry and stress.

    3. Do what you love – for fun: So maybe you write, cook, draw, makeup, cycle, dance and more. Do them all.  If the chances are that your job is your passion, you can still engage in it, but this time without pressure. Do it because you want to and if there are flaws, relish in them because it only shows that you are human.

Take the pressure off yourself, let your hair down and breathe…
